I have a special post for you all today because today is my grandparents wedding anniversary! They’ve been married for 58 years!
That picture ^ is the only coloured picture in their wedding album, it was a special gift off the photographer. It blows my mind to think of a time when coloured pictures were rare enough to be given as special presents..
Their love is truly a special kind of love because even something as cruel as Alzheimer’s can’t take it away. Honestly it’s the most amazing thing to see just how much my Grandad still loves my Grandma even though he doesn’t recognise her now he still talks about how much he loves her and oh it’s just the most amazing thing.
I feel truly lucky to have grown up with them as an example of what true love and marriage is about. Without even realising it they taught me to believe in true love and to really value marriage and the family unit as a whole.
I’m sure that you’ve all seen The Notebook, you all know the story, but that’s what my Grandma lives on a daily basis now, she sits and tells him about their life together trying to help him remember. You don’t need an overly dramatic and romantic story like The Notebook to tell you what true love is though, you need people like my grandparents, the ones that are really living it.
I don’t really have a specific point to this post, I just wanted to wish my grandparents a happy 58th wedding anniversary and to also thank them for showing me what true love and marriage is really about in a world full of divorce and bitterness.
I’m a hopeless romantic and stories like theirs, ones of true everlasting love truly are my favourite kind of love stories! If I can be half as lucky as they are when I get married I’ll be truly blessed.
I’ve never truly understood Virgil’s Ecologues but I do know one thing, he was spot on when he said “Love Conquers All” it really does.
Thanks for reading!
