If you’d prefer to listen to the audio version of Frank Sinatra – Songs For Swingin’ Lovers! then you can do so by using the SoundCloud Player at the bottom of the post or by subscribing on iTunes here!

This post is the thirteenth post of my new series based on the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die by Robert Dimery.

In this series I’m going to be looking through the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die and commenting on the albums featured, telling you about albums I think should have been featured, artists that should have been featured too and just anything else I feel like commenting on!

This isn’t a sponsored series but if you’d like to read the book with me I’ll put a link at the bottom of this post to where you can buy it. This series is just something I wanted to do because I’d been reading the book and found that I had a lot of opinions!

Every Tuesday and Thursday I’m going to take one album from the front of the book starting in 1950s and one album from the back of the book starting in 2000’s, I’ll give you a bit of the albums history, the track list and of course my thoughts on the album!

In this post we’re going to be talking about Frank Sinatra – Songs For Swingin’ Lovers!

As this album is available on Spotify I’ll put a player below this paragraph so that if you’d like to listen along whilst you read the rest of this post you can!

I’m only 13 posts into this series and this is the eighth album from the 1950s and I’m already on my second post about Frank Sinatra…

If you’d like to read my previous post about Frank Sinatra first then please click here, I don’t want to repeat information so if you didn’t see my post about In The Wee Small Hours – Frank Sinatra (the album before this one) then I highly recommend you read that post first.

Songs For Swingin’ Lovers was released in 1956 by Capitol, it was produced by Voyle Gilmore and the art director is uncredited and the run time is 45:00.

The early 1950s were a rough time for Frank Sinatra and his career, In The Wee Small hours was the album responsible for reviving his career and Songs For Swingin’ Lovers is the album that followed that.

Let’s take a look at the track list:

Track One: You Make Me Feel So Young

Track Two: It Happened in Monterey

Track Three: You’re Getting to Be a Habit with Me

Track Four: You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me

Track Five: Too Marvellous for Words

Track Six: Old Devil Moon

Track Seven: Pennies from Heaven

Track Eight: Love Is Here to Stay

Track Nine: I’ve Got You Under My Skin

Track Ten: I Thought About You

Track Eleven: We’ll Be Together Again

Track Twelve: Makin’ Whoopee

Track Thirteen: Swingin’ Down the Lane

Track Fourteen: Anything Goes

Track Fifteen: How About You?

My favourite track from this album is You Make Me Feel So Young.

The only thing left to say is whether or not I think this album belongs on the list of 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die… my answer is no, absolutely not.

I understand why In The Wee Small Hours was on the list but I can’t figure out why this album is on the list, it’s interesting to note that at the end of every album piece it gives the initials of the person who has written that particular piece and the same person put In The Wee Small Hours and Songs For Swingin’ Lovers on the list.

Songs-For-Swingin-Lovers, Frank-Sinatra, 1001-Albums-You-Must-Hear-Before-You-Die, And-Then-Charlotte-Said,, Music-Blog,

This isn’t a particularly outstanding or game changing album, sure it’s a fantastic album but isn’t everything Ol’ Blue Eyes did fantastic? I think you can safely go through life having never heard this album and survive life just fine.

That’s it for this post from my new series based on the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die! As I said at the beginning of this post this isn’t in anyway a sponsored series but if you’d like to buy the book so you can read along with me then click here for the link to purchase from Waterstones if you live in the UK and click here for the Amazon link if you’re in the rest of the world.

Those aren’t affiliate links; I just want to make sure you guys know where to buy the book if you want to read along too!
