If you’d prefer to listen to the audio version of Frank Sinatra – My Way – Music Monday #26! then you can do so by using the SoundCloud Player at the bottom of the post or by subscribing on iTunes here!

This post is the latest edition of Music Monday, a series in which I give you an exclusive look into my ever-growing record collection!

Every Monday I pick a record from my collection completely at random and then I write about it! In today’s post the album I’m going to be talking about is Frank Sinatra – My Way!

This album is available on Spotify so I’ll put a player here so that if you’d like to listen to the album as you read the rest of this post then you can!

Frank Sinatra was an American singer and actor who is without a doubt one of the most well-known, popular and influential entertainers of the 20th century!

On the back of this album there is a small passage about Frank Sinatra that I think is fantastic and so I’m going to share it here now, the passage is signed with the initials S.C but I can’t figure out who that is, I feel like the answer is probably staring me right in the eye but I can’t see it, if I figure it out then I’ll make sure I update!

Anyway, here’s the passage

‘If a man moves through life, walking as if he knows the planets are watching him, and might be amused by his presumption – that man is Frank Sinatra.

If a man grows in harmony with all his yesterdays, as these days now rush past him more suddenly – that man is Frank Sinatra.

If you pass a man whose face looks less intimidated than others, because for all his years, he has known how to look deep into all of life’s other faces – that man is Frank Sinatra.

And if you hear of a man who will do it only his way – damn to high damn what other ways others expect from him – only “my way” – then, that man is Frank Sinatra.

And if you can find a man who can remember and walk and grow and look in all these ways that man is worth the listening.’ – S.C

My Way was released in 1969, the album is effectively a covers album of contemporary pop songs, with covers of songs from the likes of Simon and Garfunkel and The Beatles.

Let’s take a look at the track list!

Side One:

  • Watch What Happens
  • Didn’t We (originally sung by Richard Harris)
  • Hallelujah, I Love Her So (originally sung by Ray Charles)
  • Yesterday (originally sung by The Beatles)
  • All My Tomorrows

Side Two:

  • My Way
  • A Day In The Life Of A Fool
  • For Once In My Life
  • If You Go Away (an adaptation of the Jacques Brel song ‘Ne Me Quitte Pas’)
  • Mrs Robinson (originally sung by Simon & Garfunkel)

There was a remastered version of this album released in 2009 with two additional bonus tracks that you can hear in the Spotify player above.

The two bonus tracks are:

  • A rehearsal version of For Once In My Life
  • My Way – Live At The Reunion Theatre

This album completely messes with my mind and in fact I can still remember the first time I listened to this album,

In my head, I struggle to grasp the fact that Frank Sinatra was around with The Beatles and people like that, date wise I know he was because Sinatra didn’t die until 1998 but it is still something that I just can’t get my head around and I don’t really know how to explain why.

So, the first time I heard this album and I heard Sinatra sing Yesterday I was like OH MY GOD THE BEATLES STOLE YESTERDAY FROM SINATRA WHY DOESN’T ANYBODY KNOW THIS???? But then I looked into it a little further and well boy did I feel ridiculous!
